Since 1993, John’s Photo Pharmacy has been proudly serving the Tauranga community with friendly, professional service and a broad range of pharmacy, health, wellbeing, beauty, personal care and specialist services.
What began as a dream and a traditional pharmacy and photography business has grown into a comprehensive health and retail destination. Today, our team brings together qualified pharmacy professionals, experienced naturopaths, medical herbalists and knowledgeable staff, providing practical advice and personalised solutions for the whole family.
Our commitment has remained the same throughout our journey: to exceed our customers’ expectations while providing competitively priced prescriptions, medicines, natural health products and modern everyday essentials.
About Us
Our Story
We opened our doors in 1993 as a dream-come-true business venture with the purchase of Alan Quinn Photo Pharmacy.
In those early days, much of the business centred around traditional photography, cameras, photographic equipment, photo processing and the dispensing of pharmaceuticals.
As Tauranga continued to grow, so did we. In 1998, we completed our first major expansion, doubling the size of our shop. Just three years later, in 2001, we expanded again.
While the products and services available today have changed considerably, our commitment to friendly customer service has remained at the heart of everything we do. Our qualified staff continue to support customers across all areas of the store, offering a broad range of the products and services people need for their health, wellbeing and everyday life.
The way people approach health has also evolved. There is now a growing interest in healthier lifestyles, natural medicines, herbal products, beauty and personal care. We have responded by bringing these areas together under one roof, with our core services spanning pharmacy and dispensing, natural health, beauty and personal care, alongside our established photography and photolab services.
We are proudly New Zealand owned and operated and remain committed to supporting the Tauranga community we have served for more than three decades.

Pharmacy & Dispensary
Our pharmacy is open every day and is equipped with a full dispensary of pharmaceuticals available in New Zealand.
From prescription medicines to over-the-counter products, our fully qualified and experienced pharmacists are available to answer your questions, discuss your medicines and provide guidance when you need it.
Our pharmacy services include:
- Prescription dispensing
- Over-the-counter medicines and healthcare products
- Emergency Contraceptive Pill (ECP)
- Antibiotic treatment for Urinary Tract Infections (UTIs)
- Blood pressure testing
- Blood glucose testing
- Pharmacist-only sildenafil prescriptions
- Medication packaging, including Medi-roll sachets and Medico-pak
- Medication packaging for private customers and rest home facilities
- Delivery services
- Vaccinations, including flu, booster, diphtheria, tetanus and pertussis (whooping cough), and MMR (measles, mumps and rubella)

Rebecca is the pharmacy owner and works actively at John’s Photo Pharmacy as a pharmacist.
She works alongside and supports our Herbalists and Naturopaths as they continue to develop their areas of expertise.
We are extremely proud of our knowledgeable team of experienced and qualified practitioners.
Our Naturopaths and Medical Herbalists are committed to working with you, understanding your individual needs and helping you move towards your health goals.

John’s Photo Pharmacy is proudly New Zealand owned and operated, offering much more than medicines.
Our retail range covers everything from fragrance and first aid to makeup, medicines, skincare, hair care, test kits and tanning products.
Our online shopping service also makes it easier to access your pharmacy, health, beauty and wellbeing products.
In-store, our team can also assist with services such as ear piercing, skincare consultations, makeovers and colour matching.

Monday – Friday: 9:00am – 5:30pm
Saturday: 9:00am – 4:00pm

Photolab hours may vary slightly from the main pharmacy. Limited services are available on Sundays, so please contact us to confirm.
Photolab
Photography has been part of John’s Photo Pharmacy since the beginning, and our Photolab continues that tradition today.
Our experienced photolab technicians can help you print photos directly from your mobile phone as well as work with traditional photography formats such as slides and negatives.
Every print goes through a high-quality Epson digital lab printer and is manually controlled by our technicians to achieve the best possible colour balance and contrast.
